10 Months!! (a few days late)

Calin is 10 months old!!

Here are some things about our sweet little boy:

-He is everywhere!!  He is crawling like crazy now and loves to be all over the place.  He does not like to be left alone in a room and so he follows me around the house with whatever I am doing.

-Still loves to be outside.  I think he'd stay out there all day if he could!

-Loves to walk!  The last few weeks he has LOVED walking around with help from one of us holding his hands or his new walker.  However, I am really careful not to leave him alone with the walker because it sometimes gets away from him and I don't want him to face plant right into it and lose the only two teeth he's got!  (I don't think they are very safe toys)

Cruisin!

-Knows the sound of airplanes. When we are outside and when he hears one he looks around in the sky for it.  He knows the sound so well that when we were in Lowe's the other day we heard an airplane fly over the store (it might have actually been the lifeflight helicopter) and was looking up all over the store trying to find the airplane.  He gets so excited when we see an airplane in the sky.  He gets a big smile and then does this little giggle.  It is pretty cute!

He also really likes to point at the birds and planes.

-Loves to drive his cars around all over everything! He will drive them on books, carpet, the couch, the kitchen floor, walls, the fridge, pretty much any hard surface he can find and it often comes with his excellent car noises!  Dad is constantly finding new ways to have fun with the cars!  They love them!

One day Calin found this little ledge under our desk and decided that was
a pretty good place to hang out and drive his cars.  Such a smart little boy!

-He also loves to fly his new little airplane around too and make airplane noises.  But, if he doesn't have his airplane he will use his hand and fly his hand around making airplane noises. He is just so clever!

Dad loves finding fun ways to play with their cars!

-He still loves to look at birds and has gotten quite skilled at spotting them and following them in the sky all on his own.  There is a telephone pole outside our house where a couple of birds always seem to be hanging out.  He has figured this out and always looks up and points up there without us showing him.  I'm always impressed that he remembers the birds are there even after we have not been out to look for a day or two.

Looking at birds!

-Is always excited to see new things that he has never seen before.  We had some time at the doctor to look at the fish in this tank.  He was loving it!

-His eating schedule has not seemed to change much since last month except for that he has had a rough last week since he got some sort of stomach bug last Wednesday night and was throwing up all night. It was really sad to watch our little baby sick and not know what to do to help.  After a few days with little appetite and slowly adding foods back in, he seems to be back to mostly normal and eating a little more than he was before he got sick. We had to give him pedialite for a little while and then did little bottles slowly getting bigger and then added food. It was a slow process getting him back to eating again.

-He has a bottle about 4-5 times a day every 3-4 hours (usually more toward 4) and eats food at our usual meal times.

-Since his doctors appointment when we got the ok for pretty much all food except for milk and honey, we have been trying to give Calin lots of new food and things we eat.  He is very skeptical of new food and is not very adventurous when we put it in front of him to pick up and try.  He will try it if we put it on a spoon, but then often wont eat any more.  We have been successful with bread and the day he got sick he had some yogurt and liked that, but I have been nervous to try it again...:(

All right mom, I'll sit here for this picture you take with Mr. Fish but I'm not happy about it.

-Since he got sick he has not been into the puffs or cheerios that I had been giving him as snacks between meal times.  So I am working on finding something else that he will take to snack on.  :(

-He is still a TERRIBLE night sleeper.  At night I never know what to expect anymore.  He wakes up at random times for lots of different reasons.  Some nights he goes right back to sleep other nights he's up for anywhere from an hour to three hours.  SOMETHING HAS GOT TO GIVE HERE PEOPLE!!!
How can you resist that??!!

-His naps are ok as long as I lay down to get him to sleep and then I usually have to help him get back to sleep once.  If I do all that he will take 1-2 hours naps. However, he sleeps on our bed so I have to keep close by the room in case he wakes up so he doesn't crawl off the bed. We tried a nap intervention, but only got 3 days in and then he got sick so we stopped...makes me really want to try it again if it's going to cause him to get sick eh?!!

-He likes to lift him self up onto things and will walk along holding on.  He often forgets that he is not as skilled as he thinks he is and lets go heading another direction and falls.

-Robby is still trying to teach him how to throw, but he can't get the release down. He does the whole motion pretty good, but then either drops the ball behind him too soon, or does not let the ball go when his arm goes forward.

-He still loves books, but mostly playing with them and pulling them all off the shelf.  He gets excited to read a book, but then only makes it a few pages in before he wants to be off and running doing something else.  There are a few books that he will sit still through though.  "Bedtime at the Swamp",  "Little Blue Truck", "Brown Bear, Brown Bear", sometimes "My Very First Book of Numbers".

-He is a tease.  He will often have a toy in his hand and then go to hand it to you, but he holds on to it or pulls it away and smiles or laughs.

-He is learning how to hold and "talk" on the phone.  We are working on cell phones still though. They are more flashy and he would rather look at them.

-Church is a NIGHTMARE!!  I'm sure all mom's feel this way and I should not whine, but really it is.  Sacrament meeting is often a big joke for me since Robby is in the bishopric and up on the stand.  This last week I armed myself with new toys, pictures, a necklace, and it lasted 10 minutes.  By the time we got to taking the sacrament Calin was done. I have been trying to get there early to get a seat by the door so we can sneak out easily.  However, now I think I'm going to get there early to get a seat on the couch in the foyer.  Otherwise they are full when Calin and I leave the meeting and since we inevitably spend most of our time out there I may as well just plan on sitting out there right?!

-He has been extra cuddly since he got sick last week.  We are enjoying the snuggle times!

Even though this last week has seemed extra difficult (teething, throw-up, gas, not sleeping at night, etc.) I wouldn't trade it for anything.  Calin makes us pretty happy and is so fun to spend my day with! Excited to keep watching this boy learn and grow!

WE LOVE HIM!!!

Easter Weekend in Salt Lake

The Friday before Easter we drove up to Salt Lake along with my parents to meet up with my siblings for a fun family night.  My cousins Michael and Cassidy were also blessing their baby so we were able to attend that on Saturday too.  On Friday night when we got there we met up with everyone at the bowling alley for pizza and bowling.  It was fun! We had not been bowling for a long time!

Calin and Aunt Becca.  He was very distracted when we first got there looking at all the lights and screens!

It was not an easy night for him since it was getting to be bed time, loud and noisy, and lots of people.  He was having a hard time not being with mom and dad....pretty typical! Sorry Uncle Erich!

Calin pushing his first ball down the alley!

Crazy siblings!

Calin trying to get the ball, grandma helping, and Aunt Becca being crazy!

Trying to crawl to the ball.

Erich, Allie, Grandma and Calin

The whole group! So fun to have everyone together!
On Saturday we hung out, did a little shopping, and then went to my cousin's baby blessing.  After the blessing we came back to Uncle Max and Aunt Karen's house for lots of delicious food and an Easter egg hunt! It was Calin's first egg hunt!  He had no idea what was going on but seemed glad to get some eggs to hold and play with!  That afternoon we went and looked at potential spots for a family get together this summer, visited with family, and then that evening once it was Calin's bed time we drove back to St. George.  With our callings, both Robby and I needed to be back for church on Sunday.  I was sad to see the visit end.  I love being with family and am sad we don't get to spend more time with them!

Calin grabbing his first egg.

He got 2 eggs!! Way to go!

So proud of his loot!

Both eggs!

Uncle Max was SUPER generous and gave out a lego set to all of the kids too!  So awesome!

Popping bubbles with Aunt Becca!

On Sunday, after getting back LATE Saturday night and Calin deciding to wake up right when we got home and stay up for an hour, we went to church.  It was a beautiful Easter Sunday and a great day at church!  So grateful for the gospel and for our Savior and the atonement.  It was great to remember Him this Easter season!
Calin in his Easter outfit.  I snapped this right before we changed.
It was cuter with his Sunday shoes on too. What a little stud!

After church and after Calin's nap we went to the Comeford's for a great Easter dinner.  It was delicious!  So much good food!  After dinner we changed into more casual clothes to go and enjoy the wonderful spring afternoon.
Calin, Robby, & Preston playing a lawn game.  I'm not sure what it is called.
Calin was loving throwing those balls though!

It was great to play outside and spend time with Robby's family for Easter!

So glad we got to visit up north and enjoy time with both our families to celebrate Easter!!

Mielke's Spring Break

My parents spring break was the last week in March and they made the long trek down here to St. George.  My brother Josef also took some time off work and came down at the beginning of the week.  It was so great to have them here to visit!!   Glad they come down so often to visit and spend time with us and my grandma.  Here are some of the highlights of their visit with the pictures I took:

Playing tennis for family home evening on Monday.  My mom was on Calin duty!

My Dad got a new ball machine for Christmas and so
we were all trying it out.  You can see it in the bottom left corner.
Calin was helping pick up and gather balls.  He got
pretty attached to the one he has in his hand and wouldn't let it go.
He's been very possessive of toys lately!

My Dad hitting some balls.

Robby and Josef taking turns hitting balls.

My mom and I taking our turn.

Calin climbing trees with Grandma.
Enjoying the lovely spring St. George weather!

Calin loved anyone that would take him outside to walk and to hang out with Mia.

Our entertainment...Everyone watching Calin!

Grandpa and Calin ready to go outside in their matching hats.

Swimming at Grandma's Pool

Calin is really starting to love the pool and being in water!

Dyeing Easter eggs the Santa Clara way...flowers/weeds and onion skins!

This ottoman at my Grandma's house was a perfect size for Calin.
He loved standing there and driving his cars on it.

A nice evening walk around the block.

Calin was pretty excited to ride in the wagon!

Trying out the best tricycle ever!

On Thursday night my cousin Maren, her husband Kamrom, and their kids came to visit
my grandma. We enjoyed catching up with her and her cute family and having a bbq dinner outside!
Love the beautiful spring weather!

Calin loved having other kids to play with!

Calin  got to check out the "stream" that is behind my grandma's house.

It was so wonderful to have time to spend with my family!  We also went to the art festival, did some shopping, and spent lots of time playing with Calin!  He is very entertaining!

On Friday we drove up to Salt Lake to continue the party! I will do a separate post for that.  So glad that my parents and brother came down to St. George to visit! It's nice to have them come!
