I can't believe we have spent a year with this little one!! He is such an amazing little man and we just can't get enough of him!! Here are some things about Calin at 1 year old!!
Weight 21.25 lbs (26%)
Height 29.92 in. (55%)
Head 17.9 in. (24%)
-On his birthday he was walking about 10 steps max, but in the last week he has taken off and is walking everywhere!! He loves his new found freedom!! Especially outside! He can also squat and pick things up and can go from sitting to standing without holding on to anything using the floor to push up.
-He still loves to eat and especially likes sampling what we have on our plates. He is still mostly eating fruits and vegetables, but does also eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (he loves these), eggs, bread in general, puffs snacks, sometimes cheerios, rice, baked beans, and anything else we can find to give him that he can "chew" with his few little teeth.
-Sometimes when he is eating he likes to be silly and play with his bowl and food. He will throw pieces of food on the ground and then look over his chair at it on the floor or dump his bowl upside down (we have a suction bowl but he somehow manages to get it unstuck) We are trying to discourage this behavior. Hopefully he doesn't keep it up forever!
-He still only has 4 teeth. Two on top and two on bottom.
-He likes to dance. His favorite dancing song is The Wiggles "Do the Monkey". He will also dance sometimes when he hears other music on pandora or his toys that play songs on them. His dance is often while sitting down and he does a little top half/head bob that is pretty cute. For the monkey dance he bobs and wiggles his arms around. Sometimes he will rub his feet together really fast after doing his bobbing too. He also has a little one foot stomp dance he does while holding on to the couch or something with his hands. It is all pretty cute!
-He is loving the water more and more. This past week the few times we have gone swimming he is getting good at jumping (scooting from a sitting position on the edge) to me. He even closed his eyes and mouth the last time we swam and goes under the water. I'm such a proud swimmer mom! He loves to splash and play and watch everyone else having fun in the pool.
-Still LOVES his cars and airplanes. He loves to drive his cars around on the floor, windowsill, tables, chairs, anywhere he can to drive them!
-He still likes to see birds and airplanes, but does not seem to be as super excited as he used to get when seeing them.
-He likes to play with clothes, towels, blankets, and this soft piece of material Grandma Comeford has at her house. He will drag it around, swing it, put it on his head, etc. It is pretty funny. One day one of my shirts occupied him for hours throughout the day.
-He is such a tease. He often knows when he is doing something silly, funny, or that he isn't supposed to. He will look at you with his guilty smile and laugh or keep doing it to get a reaction. I try to ignore it or tell him no, but sometimes it's pretty funny and I just can't help but laugh. Sometimes it's with a game we are playing with him and so its supposed to be fun anyways. He is just too smart!
-First words!? He has been babbling "mommamomma" for a while, but he does seem to be doing it now knowing it is me. So I guess we will call that his first word!
-He also says "da da", "ba" (birds), "uh oh", "oh yeah" (dad taught him that), "no" (I have only heard it maybe 2 or 3 times and it did not seem to be an actual no with meaning), "da" (dog-only says it when he reads his book with a dog in it), "mmm" "yum".
-Sounds effects "weeeo weeeeo" (fire engine), "eeoww" (meow), horse noise (kind of a tongue and cheek vibration imitation of our lip vibration horse noise), me-o me-o (we don't know what this is but he likes to make that noise sometimes), car noises, airplane noises

| oooo" |
-He understands a lot of things that we are saying. We can say a word (car, ball, crib, bottle, bird) and he will look at it and understand what we are talking about. I can give him simple directions and he will follow them some of the time. He knows when we say hungry or food and gets excited to eat.
-Can sign "more" and "drink". He does "more" on his own, but drink he still just imitates me.
-LOVES LOVES LOVES to be outside. He knows the word outside and gets super excited to be out there. He also knows that when we put his shoes on it means he is going outside. He will sometimes go and stand by the door waiting to go or trying to get the door open.
-He will often try to imitate our actions and sounds that we make.
-When he sees us eating he will open his mouth or starts smacking his tongue and lips ready to eat whatever we have before the food is even close to his mouth.

-Likes to blow raspberries on peoples bare skin. One day he thought he would do it on his cousins Gracie and Preston's tummies (imitating how we do it on his tummy). He would lift up their shirt and he actually blows so it makes the sound and everything. It was really funny cause he just kept doing it over and over and we were all laughing so hard so he kept doing it. He thought he was so cute getting everyone to laugh like that. However, it is becoming a problem. At church last week his little friend Kambria (2 months older than him) was wearing a sundress so she had lots of bare skin on her arms, shoulders, and back. Calin went up to her and grabbed her dress to pull her in and blow on her. I'm sure to her mom and everyone else it looked like he was going to bite her! Yikes. So, needless to say we are trying to break that habit.
-He can do cheers with his cup/bottle. Dad taught him this one!
-He likes to knock on doors he knows someone is behind. When we go to the bathroom he will sit outside the door and knock waiting for us to come out.
-Loves to wave at everyone and sometimes everything. He has two waves. One is a open/close into fist wave. The other is more of an actual hand back and forth wave.
-He recognizes when something is funny. He will notice when others are laughing and smile or laugh with us. He also laughs to himself sometimes. He has a full deep bellied laugh when something is really funny (usually when we are doing something with him like tickling) and then this little "hahuhha" fake type laugh he does to himself or when he is laughing with others.
-Still loves to read. His favorite books the last few weeks have been "If I Built a Car" There is a dog in the story and he likes to see the dog on every page. He doesn't often sit through the story being read, but will sit there if we just look at each page and point to the dog. He also likes "Moo Ba La La La" and would often sit through it over and over again. He will sometimes bring a book over to us, climb in our lap, and is ready to read!
-He also likes to look at books on his own and is getting really good at turning pages. Even on his practically in shreds "If I Built A Car" paperback he can carefully turn each page. (we have had a few ripping catastrophes, but usually it was because he was trying to get the book out from under something and ripped it.)
-He is loving animals and animal sounds! He loves to look at pictures of animals. We have some framed animal prints in his room and that often distracts him long enough to get his diaper changed. We got him some animal touch and feel flash cards for his birthday and he loves them! He is also able to pick out some of the animals he knows when we lay the cards on the floor out in front of him.
-Does not like to get his diaper changed. Usually the hardest times are before nap times when he is tired. He knows whats coming! ;)
-I wouldn't classify him as a terrible sleeper, but a terrible going to sleeper. I have tried just putting him in his crib to put himself to sleep and he will either cry for forever (like an hour plus) and never go to sleep or he will calm down and start playing in his crib standing up and still won't go to sleep. I have tried sitting next to the crib so I can keep him laying down, and that sometimes works but it will be a 45 minute process to get him to sleep. Lately for my sanity and his I have been rocking him until he is really sleepy for his naps and bed and then lay him in his crib and let him settle and finish falling asleep there. Summer has meant crazy schedules with company and different activities, but after a trip up north at the beginning of July I'm hoping to try some sleep training again and see if we can't get him to go to sleep on his own. I'm probably spoiling him and giving in too fast, but it is just traumatic for all of us to listen to him scream for an hour or more!
-Naps are anywhere from 25 minutes to 2 hours (we should take him swimming every day!).
-Sleeps from 9pm to 5 or 6am pretty consistently. We can sometimes get him to go back to sleep until 7 but most of the time he is up for the day between 6 and 6:30! (aaahhhh!) He wakes up occasionally in the night but usually goes right back to sleep.
-Most of Calin's life he has been pretty attached to mom and dad and had a hard time with everyone else unless mom and dad were right there. However, he seems to be growing out of that (which is funny because stranger anxiety usually starts around age 1). He is doing well being left with people he knows and no longer cries for the whole time he is left with them. Yea for being able to go out with Robby and not worry as much the whole time!
Mostly Robby and I just love how fun he is. He is constantly surprising us with the cute and funny things he does. He is friendly with everyone (especially now that he can wave) but shy when he might have to get close. ;) He is such a happy boy and rarely is upset or fussy. He is very tough, but also soft hearted. He loves life and is always excited to explore and try new things. He is curious about everything and loves to investigate how things work and how to do them. I think he is a lot like Robby and will be very creative and smart as he grows up. We love the amazing little boy he is and can't wait to watch him continue to grow and learn new things! He is such a blessing in our lives and we love him so much!!
