Grandma and Grandpa Mielke's Visit

Although it was a short visit, we enjoyed every minute of having Grandma and Grandpa Mielke here to visit!  It meant so much to me that they would drive all that way just to be here for a couple of days.  They really are the best grandparents and parents we could ask for! Friday we did all our fun Halloween activities.  Saturday we just had a chance to hang out and play!

Here are a few pictures of some of the fun we had with them before they had to go.

They came and hung out at our house Saturday morning and afternoon.  Then after naps we went over to Great Grandmas for more fun and dinner with family.

Watching the bike riding.

Clara was loving it!

Fun with Grandpa!

Clara scooted herself right back into this bag.

Grandma had a little bit more fun with it.

More playing with grandma!

Calin was having a blast driving cars on the counter with Grandpa!

Best picture we got during our attempt to get a picture of the kids with grandma.

Finishing off the night with some hide and seek with grandpa!
It was so fun to have them visit and we were sad that they had to make the long drive back on Sunday.  Excited though that we get to see them in a few weeks for Thanksgiving!

Clara 8 Months!

Clara is 8 Months Old!

Another month has FLOWN by and our little girl just keeps growing up!  It's sad that things seem to be flying by.  I'm not ready for this girl to grow up.  Please stay little forever Clara!! This was a difficult photo shoot, but it must be the age!  Looking back at Calin's 8 months his was pretty similar! She has lots of cute blurry pictures!  She was also tired, so we didn't get a lot of our normal happy smiley Clara, more of our tired serious girl.

This past month has really brought out a lot of Clara's personality.  She's really starting to figure out what she wants and where she wants to go and she definitely has an opinion and things to say (squeal and screams) if she doesn't get what she wants.

She is full of things to say especially when she wakes up in the morning and after her nap and when she is eating.  She is making lots of noises, but we especially love her babbles that sounds like "mom mom mom" and "da da da"!

She makes noise when she is eating (she used to do this when nursing, but that has since stopped and now she does it when she's eating solid foods).  She does a "mmm mmm mmm" so we can only assume that she is really loving her food!

She is rolling all over, scooting backwards, lifting herself up on her knees, doing a plank up on her hands and feet occasionally, going from laying down to sitting, and somehow combining all that to move all over the place.  No crawling yet though.

She likes to hear music and will start to "sing" along sometimes when she hears it.

Lately she has been talking a lot during quiet times like during Sunday school.  She is finding her voice!

She still loves crinkly things-paper, plastic bags, anything that makes a fun noise.   I have to watch her cause if she gets ahold of something she tries to eat it.

She still occasionally has an evening nap.  Its still a rough stretch if she doesn't have one.  I actually tried to stop her evening nap for a while but then she wasn't sleeping as well at night so I have started trying to give her that short nap again right around 5:30 or 6 and then she sleeps much better through the night.

Most of the time she sleeps pretty well until she wakes up to eat.  If I feed her she goes right back to sleep and then sleeps good.  However, I've been trying to hold her off a little more to see if I can get her to give up her 2-4am feeding.  It doesn't work.  She will go back to sleep for a little bit if I hold her and walk around or if I bring her in bed next to me, but then she keeps waking up until I feed her. So usually I just give in and feed her so I can go to sleep!

Right after 7 months I noticed one night that she was rolling over onto her stomach in her swaddle. So I had to stop swaddling her.  It was a rough transition for about a week and a half, but since then she seems to be doing great.  She likes to sleep on her stomach and usually as soon as I lay her down she rolls right over to her belly.

I wish this picture wasn't so dark cause I love her cute face she's making!

She has finally gotten the hang of the whole eating business.  She still doesn't eat a ton, but does seem to like everything she's tried.  She has had most of the typical baby foods (peas, carrots, green beans, squash, sweet potatoes, peaches, pears, bananas, avacado, applesauce, and baby oatmeal).  Although she doesn't eat a lot, she does enjoy her food and seems to like everything.

She is very aware though that the food she has is not the good stuff and really tries to grab or get her mouth on what we are having!

She is still wearing 3-6 month clothes and has room to spare in her 6-9 month clothes.  She is in size 2 diapers.

She still loves Calin, but is definitely showing her occasional annoyance at his "smothering".  He loves her a lot too, but sometimes just a little too much.

She gets really excited when she sees Dad or when he comes home, but (and I must say I kinda like this) she still gets really excited to see me even if I just walk away for a little bit.

She does not like to be left behind.  If we all happen to leave the room (to go help Calin or something like that) she gets so sad and definitely puts on the sad face until we come back and get her.

She does ok with books.  They are not always her favorite unless she can grab it and get her hands all over it.

She loves to be outside watching Calin, friends, cousins and all the action.  She stays content out there for a long time as long as someone is up, walking around, and holding her.  She does pretty well playing inside too as long as she has some company and some toys to play with.

She likes to try to see and do whatever Calin is doing, but is especially showing lots of interest in his cars!  She loves to try to get to him when he is driving and playing and she likes to drive them around too and is doing her own car noises pretty good as well!

She really likes to stand up and is always trying to find something to pull herself up onto!

I love that we are seeing her "fighting" side coming out because I can see that she is going to be tough and stand up for herself and make sure that she gets attention too!  She's going to need those qualities with her older brother around!  We sure do love our little Clara and love watching her learn and grow!

Halloween Day!

Halloween this year was a lot of fun with a great big wonderful surprise! That morning we had a relaxed morning after Robby and I had been up until 2 finishing costume stuff.   After getting the kids all ready and in their costumes, we headed over to Great Grandma Ila's to "trick-or-treat".  We love going to visit grandma and really need to make it over there more often!

Calin being silly with Dad's shoes while we were trying to get him ready in his costume.

Trick or Treat!!

All of my pictures with Great Grandma turned out blurry. :( This was the best one.

After visiting at Grandma's house for a while she took us to lunch at Dairy Queen.  We had a great time out with her and enjoyed getting to visit a little more!

After lunch we hurried home to get kids down for their naps so they'd be ready for the evening.  Just as I lay down to help get Calin to sleep, the doorbell rang.  Robby came in to get me and Calin to go and answer the door.  When we opened it we were greeted by a witch and a clown! (Grandma and Grandpa Mielke).  It took Calin a minute to realize what was going on and who it was, but then he was quite happy and excited to have them there!  We were all so surprised to see them and had no idea they were coming to visit!

Calin put Grandpa right to work reading him lots of stories.
He was very sad when we had to break up the fun so that he could get a nap!

Clara was asleep when they arrived, but was happy to join in the fun once she woke up!

We enjoyed hanging out with Grandma and Grandpa for the afternoon and visiting with them in person instead of on the computer! After Calin's nap he took Grandma and Grandpa out for some bike riding in the circle and we took a trip around the block before coming back to have dinner before trick or treating.

We had our traditional sloppy joes with jack-o-lantern faces!

After dinner we got the kids all ready in their costumes to go trick or treating as the "Dukes of Hazard".

Bo Duke, so handsome.

Daisy, Boss Hogg, Bo and Luke Duke

Robby and I were up the night before making Clara's hat and the "General Lee" (the car).

So suave.

When trying to get the above pose with legs crossed, Calin of course did the opposite and
spread his legs as far apart as he could.  So we did a pose like that too.

Cute Boss Hogg and Grandpa in his Halloween shirt in the background!

Trick-or-Treating to Grandma and Grandpa Comefords!
We just went around the block to about 7 or 8 houses with Calin and of course had to
stop and say hi to the goats along the way!

My and my cute girl!

Love her smiles and funny faces!

After going out trick or treating we hung out at our house while we had trick or treaters coming.  It died down pretty quick cause we don't get very many trick or treaters.  So then we loaded up and headed over to the Salley's  for their annual Halloween party.  It was crazy over there as usual with the hundreds of trick or treaters and all the Pirate fun they have in their yard!

Robby got captured...

Poor Calin ended up as the pirate queen!

And then sent to walk to the plank!

We ended the night at their house with some yummy snacks, visiting, and one last group shot before heading home where all of us crashed for the night.  We were all exhausted!

It was a fabulous Halloween and we were so glad we got to spend it with so many members of our families!  We missed my siblings though and often wish they were closer to share in the fun, but glad my parents made the trip to be here to celebrate with the kids!

Halloween Activities!

A week before Halloween we went out to Hurricane with our friends the Cook's to dinner and then to "Sleepy Hollow".  We had been there last year and were excited to go again.  It was just as fun this year and we really enjoyed it.

Once you get there you go on a hayride through the farm over to the actual "Sleepy Hollow" area.
The headless horseman of course escorts you!

They had hay to feed all the many animals they had there.  Calin and Dylan were loving all the animals!

Cute friends! We are so glad Calin has Dylan to play with!

Clara came and enjoyed observing everything in the bjorn!

Calin waving on his horse ride! He loved it!

Riding the sleepy hollow train!

Finishing off the night with a visit with the headless horseman!

Monday before Halloween we made sugar cookies and then frosted them the next day.  Calin helped mix the cookies and then helped frost too!
He loves to stir!

He ate about the same amount of candy corn as what he put on his cookies.
He was definitely on a sugar high that night!

Clara hung out and watched us all frost cookies for a little bit then played in the living room.

Calin's creations!
Wednesday before Halloween we carved our pumpkins.  Calin was not a fan of pulling the insides out until I gave him the big scooper spoon and then he didn't mind it and had fun!
Perfect face!

Such a good helper!

Calin's pumpkin! He wanted triangle eyes, oval nose, (he drew them himself with just a little help to keep the pen on the pumpkin) and a smiley mouth with "fangs that glow so bright"!  It turned out great!

Our pumpkins! Robby always makes great scary face pumpkins! I go for the easy traditional faces!

We forgot to get a pumpkin for Clara.  Oh well. Next year!
