Clara 10 Months!

10 Months!!

I feel like we were just at 9 months. The last month has just flown by.  Probably since Christmas and New Years were thrown in there, but I just can't believe how fast our little baby is growing up.

Over the last month Clara has just been getting more and more mobile and comfortable with standing on her own, crawling, walking along furniture, and pulling up on everything.  She is so close to walking and when she is standing on her own you can just see her itching to take that step.  One time she was able to move her foot and rebalance, but it wasn't a step, more of a foot adjustment.  It's coming soon though!

When she wants to get somewhere or sees something she wants, she can really crawl fast to get to where she wants to go.  Her favorite place to try and get to is the bathroom.  If I forget to close the door and she sees it's open she crawls as fast as she can to get there.  She will crawl in and go lift herself up on the tub and stand there and "play".   I think she just wants to take a bath!

She loves bath time and gets so excited when she realizes we are doing a tubby.  She is quite adventurous in the tub so we have to be right there to make sure she doesn't just dive right in or hit her head on the tub or faucet.

Just the past two weeks she has started skipping her 3-4:00 wake-up/feeding.  It has been so nice to have a little bit more sleep!  She wakes up around 6 or 7 to eat.  Sometimes she goes back to sleep, but more often she is up around 7 for the day.

She takes a morning nap around 9 or 10 and then another nap when Calin naps in the afternoon around 1 or 2.  Most afternoon naps I'll lay down with her to keep her to sleep longer than 1/2 hour.  Sometimes I get stuff done on my computer or read, but a lot of the time I end up falling asleep and having a little nap with her.

She has become quite the little eater.  She loves food that she can eat with her hands on her own.  Some of her favorite foods are bread, peas, eggs, bananas, sweet potatoes, oranges, avocados, green beans, and mashed potatoes.  Lately though she has pretty much been eating anything, a mix of baby food and just table food cut up into pieces so she can eat it on her own.

She has been a little bit more stubborn lately about going down for a nap.  Most of the time she will just lay down and go to sleep if I lay down by her for just a few minutes, but occasionally she has been fighting it and gets mad when I try to lay down with her to help her calm down.

She is starting to like to read books more and more.  She got a book from Grandma Mielke for Christmas that she really likes to read. It's called "Baby Danced the Polka".  It's the first book that she likes to read over and over and over again!  She also has been liking a book from Aunt Becca called "If I Were a Poodle".  Cutest little girl book!  She also seems to really like books that have animals and animal noises involved.  However, a lot of the time she will only make it through a couple pages before she is wanting down to be off and running.

She likes animals.  When we walk to see the goats, sheep, and horses in our neighborhood she gets really excited and it seems as if she is trying to make the animals noises when we see them.  Sometimes she really does sound just like a sheep!

Right around when she was 9 months Clara started saying hi da da. She kept doing it quite a lot after that and when we would tell her to say it she would and even started doing it on her own when Robby walked into a room.  She knows her Dad!

She also babbles and chatters a lot.  She  also says "mom mom mom".  Sometimes it is clear she's saying it to acknowledge me, but then other times I think she uses it as "more" or is just babbling.

I think Clara is going to be a little social butterfly.  She likes to be around people and watch and take it all in.  She likes to show us what she's playing with and likes to be involved in what we are doing.

She does not like to sit on laps or be held much anymore.  She likes to be down on the ground exploring and playing.  As long as we are in the room with her she plays pretty well independently, but if we leave the room she crawls as fast as she can to follow us.

She has become quite the sympathetic crier for Calin. Or wailer is a better description.  It's not so much that she is "crying" but almost trying to mimic the sounds she hears Calin making.  She gets very concerned when Calin is crying and will often cry when Calin cries.  During our trip to Oregon we were having a rough night getting Calin to go to bed and he was crying and Clara just kept doing a loud scream/cry every time Calin let out a big wail.  She did the same thing when they were in the tub and Calin was upset about us washing his head off and was crying and so she kept letting out a wail every now and again too.  Its quite hilarious.

She still has no teeth.

She loves to be outside and really wants to be down on the ground running around.  It will be great when it warms up and the ground isn't always cold and wet so she can get down and explore a little more.

She has been learning how to play hide-and-go-seek with Robby and it is adorable.  Robby will put her by the fridge in the kitchen and then run into the living room and "hide" then Clara comes crawling to find him.  They played it one day while Calin and I were out playing with Alisha and Dylan and Robby said she wanted to get down and crawled into the kitchen, sat by the fridge, and then came crawling to find Robby.

She has been loving jumping on the trampoline with us all lately.  She loves being able to be "down" when we are outside and crawls all over.  She also likes to be bounced around or jump with us holding her.

Clara is just a sweet, tiny little bundle of joy and we just love her.  She is becoming her own wonderful little girl more and more every day and we just love watching her grow!

Christmas Trip to LaGrande

For Christmas this year, we made the trek over the river and through the woods to Grandma and Grandpa Mielke's house.  It was a long trip, but surprisingly all went well and we made it there and back again!

On Sunday before Christmas we went up to Cedar for the annual Sorensen family Christmas party.  It was lots of fun with great people, good food and the entertaining white elephant gift exchange.  The little cousins also enjoy a fun gift exchange and Calin and Clara were super lucky to get an awesome Jake and the Neverland Pirate treehouse and a stuffed dog and dog bag for Clara.

Calin and Gracie getting ready to open their presents.

After the party we got the kids in pjs loaded them in the car and headed up to Salt Lake.  Thankfully the kids fell asleep and we made it to Becca's at about 12:30.  Both kids did fairly well going back to sleep when we got there and we all got a little sleep before getting up the next morning to continue our drive to LaGrande.

The kids did really well! Clara slept a lot and Calin enjoyed books, songs, and a short nap.

So glad we got a rental car for all the extra room and nice features.  Made the drive much better.

Stopped in Meridian for lunch, diaper changes, and some time out of the carseats.
Once we made it to LaGrande we enjoyed being out of the car, getting ready for Christmas, time with family, trips to the park, playing in the snow, and just being able to relax at grandma and grandpas.  I love going home and just being able to relax and let my kids have fun with grandparents, aunts, and uncles.

Clara enjoyed chasing after Mia, but Mia was pretty skeptical of Clara and always ran away.

Piano time with Grandma
We went to the park one afternoon and enjoyed the swings and playground.  It was cold though so we had to bundle up everywhere we went.

Clara bundled up and ready to swing.

Becca and I on the teeter totter thingy.  We weren't quite sure how to work this thing.

Clara coming down the slide.

More sliding!

Calin jumped right up to hang on this until he realized he couldn't swing back to get down.  It was quite humorous.
Christmas Eve started out with a family run/walk down and up 12th street.  It was nice to get out and do something and do it with the family.  Robby stayed home with the kids to get Clara down for naps and play with Calin.

The rest of the day we wrapped presents, played, read books, napped, etc.  That evening we went with some family friends the Pettits to go caroling to some people in my parents ward.  It had started to snow a little bit so it was fun to get out and be Christmasy. Then we had a family dinner, Christmas Eve "program" with songs, games, and Calin reading the nativity a present from Robby to everyone for Christmas this year.  It was very sweet.  Then we all got into our Christmas Jammies, took some family pictures, and finished up the Christmas day prep.

Reading fun with Allie!

Caroling in Santa hats and catching the snow that had started to fall.

Watching "In Summer" with Becca.

Clara's cute Rudolph Christmas bow!

Fun with Summer and Josef!

Story time with Allie and Erich

Chasing after Mia!

Family!
Not sure what happened with my camera and why Allie and Summer have weird lights on
their face but love this girl jammie pic.  Calin insisted on joining us.

Christmas Jammies!

Fun with Grandpa!
It started snowing again on Christmas night so the day after Christmas we got up and bundled Calin and Clara up to go and sled down the hill in our front yard.  Calin was having a blast. I do miss snow sometimes living in St. George and this was so fun to get some time to play!

Calin took a break from sledding and came in to do the puzzle Becca gave him with her.

He was back out that afternoon to play some more! Here is the snowman we made on Christmas night.

Weeeee!

More playing in the "sand" with Grandpa.

Play time with Grandma

Grandpa and Calin having some fun playing with cars on Grandpa's bed.
It started snowing a little more on Saturday so our plans to go do frisbee golf were changed to go and play in the gym at the church.  We took Robby's new soccer goals and played some indoor soccer, shot some baskets, and let Calin ride his bike.  It was a fun afternoon.

After that we came home for naps, had dinner and then headed out in the snow to play!

Snuggles with Becca after naps.

Nose kisses!

Making a snow angel!

Getting ready to head out with Grandma!

Sledding with Becca.

Family Snow Fun!

Erich, Robby, Calin, and I ready to race down the hill and go all the way down! Calin loved going all the way down and was just loving it.  It was a cold and wet evening but so much fun!

Story time with Becca and Grandma after sledding.
Sunday we just hung out around the house, read books, more playing with new toys and grandma and grandpas toys, relaxing, and then church.  After church we had a family dinner, played games, visited, and enjoyed the last day of our time with our family.

Playing with grandma and grandpa Sunday night.

One last story time with the grandparents.

Clara enjoying a ride on my old rocking horse.
It snowed more on Sunday and so when we left Monday morning it was a slow snowy drive until we got past Baker.  After that it wasn't too bad just a little fog and icy roads by the cement plant.  Then the drive was fine until right before Salt Lake we hit a lot of blowing snow.  The kids did great again and we couldn't have asked for things to go better.  We made it all the way to Burley without stopping and then got there for a break, diaper changes, getting dressed, and lunch.

Heading out of the Grande Rhonde Valley in the snow.

Clara did good as long as I kept handing her toys, puffs, and occasionally she'd look at books or let me read to her.  A few times all that kept her happy was just to have her pacifier.  She was a great little traveler though!

Calin enjoyed lots of books and playing with his animals.  He also did great and rarely complained.
He enjoyed lots of snacks and singing songs too.

After that we continued our drive to Salt Lake.  We stopped at Becca's to give the kids a break, get some dinner, and then got them back in some new pj's and loaded back in the car to finish our drive to St. George.  When leaving Salt Lake we questioned going back because the roads were so bad over the point of the mountain until Provo, but then the skies cleared up and we had a nice clear drive back to St. George.  The kids did good and slept most of the way again.  We got home about 12:00 but then had a hard time getting kids back to sleep.  It was so good to be home though and back in our beds.  It was a fantastic trip and it was sad to leave family and we just wish we all lived closer so we could be together more often.
