Popcorn popping...

Four Months Old!!!
Weight: 14.93lbs. (45th percentile)
Height: 25.2in. (55th percentile)
Head: 16.1in. (16th percentile)

Calin was four months old on October 16th.  I wanted to wait to post until I had his stats! I can't believe 4 months have gone by since we had Calin, and yet at the same time, it seems like so much longer.  Funny how time works like that!  Calin is growing and learning and doing new things all the time.  Just the past two days he has really been studying his right hand.  It is so funny to think about what is going on in his head when he focuses like that...

Here are a few (or a lot) of things about Calin lately:

A couple months ago, Robby was putting Calin to bed and I heard him sing "Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree" to Calin.  I didn't think anything of it until I heard him sing if for many nights in a row, well now, a few months down the road Calin LOVES that song.  If he is upset and we sing that song he stops crying and listens and smiles and gets really happy!  It is pretty cute!  It has saved us a few times from some total meltdowns!  Although now we are stuck singing about spring and it is fall...
Some other favorite songs are "I love to Laugh", "I love to see the temple", "I hope they call me on a mission" (Robby likes to play a game where he starts "Iiiiii" and makes Calin wait to see which song it is since they all start with I).

Calin does not enjoy getting dressed unless you sing "we put the left arm in, we pull the left arm out, we put the right arm in, and we also pull it out..." (and so on).  He won't scream or anything, just gets a little whiny and holds his arms really stiff which makes it even harder to get his arms in and out.  It also works for getting undressed too.  Thank goodness for Robby for singing that song to make getting dressed a little more pleasant.

In the past few weeks Calin has gotten really good at grabbing everything around him. But, once he's got ahold it goes straight to his mouth! I have lost quite a bit of hair over the last few weeks!  His hands are also constantly in his mouth if he does not have something else to hold onto.  We think he is starting to get some teeth and his doctor today told us she could feel two bumps so sure enough, the teeth are coming!

Hey, something for me to grab onto!

Yes! I got it! (with mom's help)

Trying to grab the grass...which I'm sure he would have then put in his mouth if I had not taken it away!

Calin still loves books!!  Robby found some Halloween books in my school book storage and got them out to read to Calin.  He really gets excited to read books that he knows and has read a lot before.  Sometimes he even "reads" them to us! Some favorites lately are "We're off to find the Witches House",  Dr. Suess' "ABC", "Shake 'dem Halloween Bones", "Little Owl's Night", "Pirate's Guide to First Grade" and many more!

Calin's sleep schedule is all over the place.  For a while he was stuck on a 4am wake up EVERY night no matter when his last feeding was or when he went to sleep.  On Sunday night he slept 10 hours straight!! Wahoo! That was a joyous day for me!  Then last night he woke up at 5.  So maybe we are getting closer to losing that 4am!!??  His naps have been better the past few weeks as long as I take a few minutes to be with him, hold a pacifier in (he won't keep it in on his own-or can't-he does not really like the pacifier but it helps a lot) and help him to calm down with that.  Otherwise he gets himself so wound up and he can't get to sleep.

He falls asleep really well on his side lately...I guess he is going to be a side sleeper?

Calin is eating about every 3-4 hours depending on the day.  Most mornings to early afternoon he can go 4 hours.  But in the evenings he usually only makes it 3.  We are starting rice cereal this week after the pediatricians ok.  That should be a fun and exciting adventure!! Yea!!
Yeah...I like to drool...what are you going to do about it?

Calin is such a happy baby and only gets upset when he is hungry, tired, or not feeling well.  We are so blessed to have such a cheerful boy!  He will smile for almost anyone when they say hi and smile at him.  He is laughing more and more at all kinds of silly things, but mostly with Robby.   He loves to play anything with Robby. They have so much fun together!  He gets so excited to see Dad come home after being at work all day! Dad gets the best laughs and smiles! But, he always smiles big when he sees me and gets excited to have Mom around.  That is pretty awesome! We love Calin and are excited for lots of other "firsts"!!

A trip up north...

This last weekend we drove up to Salt Lake to do some shopping and see family!  It was a lot of fun!  Calin did great traveling as usual.  He had a couple fussy times and was not a great eater for the weekend, but was still pretty happy the whole time so no complaints!

My view of the backseat and my sleeping boys.

We drove up Thursday night after Robby got off work.  We stayed at my uncle and aunts house.  We are SO grateful to them for letting us stay there!  Friday we got up and went to get Robby some new suits.  Then we went to BabiesRUs and got some really cute new things for Calin.  Then we had lunch before heading off to IKEA.  I was able to get some things for our young women at IKEA.  I always like wandering around that store and usually want to spend way more money than I should!!

After IKEA we went back to the house to feed Calin and give him a chance to kick and be out of the car seat.  Then we went and met up with Josef, Erich, and Becca for dinner.  It was fun to see them and be able to visit for a while!

Erich and Calin (I forgot my camera and didn't get any other pictures-I never think to take more with my phone)

After dinner my siblings left to go to a movie (sounded fun but Calin would not have gone for that) and we met up with Robby's family at Gardner's Village.  It is a little shopping area full of boutique type shops.  Around Halloween they decorate with all these witches around the shops.  It was COLD and rainy.  Still fun to wander around, but not quite as nice as last year when we visited.

Here we all are with one of the witches in the background.

Calin all bundled up still after going to Gardner's village...he was great and slept the whole time and then went right to bed after!

Saturday we did a little more shopping, had lunch at Zupas, and then went to Becca's to hang out with her and Erich and watch the BYU game.  It was fun to just visit and have a place for Calin to be not in his car seat.  We sure do miss seeing them more often! We headed home that afternoon to get home before too late. It was a great trip and I'm glad we had a chance to go up!

Here are a few fun pictures of Calin lately:

Getting ready to head outside with Dad to do some work.

Looking CUTE as always after getting out of the bath!

 Playing cars with Dad

Playing airplanes with Dad.  He follows the airplane wherever Dad flies it.  It is pretty cute!

Chillin' in the BUMBO for the first time.  I love all his different faces! (no he did not shrink I was just at a different angle)

ALSO, Calin is 4 months old today!! (4 month post to come soon) He celebrated by coming to mutual with mom and dad!  We went to the corn maze!

Calin all bundled up right before he fell asleep on the hay ride over to the maze.

Calin slept through the whole maze then he got QUITE upset that the maze was over.
A picture with mom and Calin, now happy again!

Life is changing...

This last weekend was a lot of fun.  Unfortunately, I forgot to take my camera everywhere we went. :( So I have no pictures to show for any of it!

On Friday Robby, Calin and I went to Swiss Days over in Santa Clara.  It is a cute little festival celebrating the Swiss pioneers that settled in Santa Clara.  I think I especially appreciate this festival because some of my heritage are people that helped settle Santa Clara. They have food, games, and booths.  I'm excited for Calin to get a little older and participate in some of the kids pioneer games they have.  They also have a parade on Saturday morning.  We missed the parade this year, but the past few years have gone and it is my all time favorite parade to go to!  We went Friday night and had some yummy food, wandered around the booths, started having a funnel cake before Calin broke down.  We left and went over to my Grandma's to get the poor starving boy some food.  We got to watch the end of the BYU game and visit with my grandma.  It was a great night!

Saturday we went over to the temple (Calin's first visit to the temple) and watched my cousin Maren's kids while they went to a wedding.  It was fun to watch and get to know her 4 kids a little better!  We had a lot of fun and were glad they called us to come!  Calin was a trouper and hung out in his stroller with Dad most of the time.

Then we grabbed a quick lunch and went home to watch Gracie and Preston (Robby's sisters kids) for the afternoon. Hollie and Jimmy were working at their booth at Swiss Days.  We took the kids to the park for the afternoon and enjoyed playing in the creek, playing soccer, and tag on the play ground! Calin was great and slept through most of it!

Sunday was a big day for Robby.  He has been called into the Bishopric in our ward.  I am really excited for him and think he will have lots of fun adventures!  It does make our lives a little more busy and complicated though.  Being the Young Women's president has already kept me pretty busy and overwhelmed!  Now Robby will be busy on mutual nights too! So Calin will either be home with a sitter or come along with me if I'm not in charge of the activity!  Poor Robby will be gone a little more, but we are still glad he only works Monday through Thursday and we can have him all Friday and Saturday! :)

Lastly, Calin got his first cold. :( I got sick first and must have passed it to him.  It has not been too bad, but it is definitely so sad to have a little sniffling baby who can't figure out why he feels so miserable. He has handled it pretty well though and has still been sleeping fairly good at night.  All the shoulders of my shirts though are covered in snot! He thinks my shirt is the place to wipe his nose off.  That's a lovely habit! Thanks for that Calin! Now Robby has the cold too.  And so begins the life of sharing germs!!
