Life with Calin!

July 4th. I'm so glad I have a few pictures to remember this day by. Lots of good and not so good memories...

Because our life revolves around Calin's feedings (he is a lazy, fussy, SLOW eater) we missed the parade and Robby's niece and nephew running the races at our little town park. We did make it up there to wander around with Robby's family and watch the kids do all the booths.

This is us leaving the park...yeah Calin slept the whole time; missed all the excitement!

That evening we enjoyed a BBQ with Robby's family and then planned to watch the big St. George fireworks. However, we wanted to watch them up on a hill above St. George to see everything. The fireworks were happening right around when Calin was going to be hungry. So we went up early so I could feed him in the car and then we would already be up there to watch. Well, it took forever to find parking and then Calin didn't eat very good. We grabbed all our stuff and went out to find a spot to watch. The fireworks were not great and Robby got a nice present all over his shirt...a LOT of spit up. :( We spent most of the fireworks show cleaning up spit-up.

He is terribly happy about me taking a picture of him with spit up all over!

Then, on our way home we got pulled over because our taillight was out. By the time we got home I could not help but think "why did we even bother to take a newborn to watch fireworks when he would not even know what was going on". It's all funny now, but at the time I just felt like I never wanted to take Calin out again. It was just too much work!

However, life went on and he and I have managed many more outings together. We even managed a trip up to Salt Lake to see some family. It was kind of a last minute trip but we were so glad we went. Calin was an awesome traveler; he just slowed us down a little to eat every now and again. We were able to see lots of my cousins which was great! I carried my camera around with me, but never got a picture. Go figure. Here are a few my mom got.

Visiting with cousins!

Kelli and Lars had their little boy 2 weeks before we had Calin!

Checking out Uncle Josef

Grandma with the two newest great-grandkids! (and a few others)

My grandma with ALL of her great-grandkids together!

We are so happy to have Calin in our lives! Here are a few favorite things we like to do:

Take baths!

Make lots of silly and expressive faces!

Play and read stories with Dad! (Calin LOVES his Dad-he lights up when Dad is playing or talking with him!)

Brainwash our child to like the sports we like. (I'm still working on finding a Manchester United onesie and I have his swimming suit all ready to go!)

Fall asleep on people...much to my dismay...I have tried so hard for this not to be a preference, but our poor little gassy baby often just needs some love while he is so uncomfortable and trying to get some sleep.

Basically July has been a lot of time with Calin and enjoying being a happy little family! We are so grateful to have Calin and so lucky to have such a happy and healthy little boy!

Reason for no new posts...

My wonderful mom was here for a few weeks after Calin was born. It was such a blessing to have her here with me. I don't know what I would have done without her. Plus I got lots more done when she was here! I look around at my house these days and it's pretty pathetic! It was great to have all that help! THANKS MOM!!

So, now that she is gone, I have slowly been finding time here and there to get things done. However, blog updates have just not happened. Robby is a great help, but when he is at work, not much gets done. I just enjoy my time with Calin too much! I am working on a summary of July and will hopefully post it soon!

Calin's First Week Celebration

On the evening of June 23 we celebrated Calin's first week of life. It was great. We turned on some music and sang and danced. He was wide awake and soooo cute. I don't think I've ever had that much fun in my whole life. We finished it off with a candle in a cupcake. Of course Calin couldn't have any of the cupcake, so I enjoyed his piece too!

Daddy's Haircut

So here is how Calin and I ended up with the same hair cut. I usually cut my own hair. I just a put a number 8 size attachment (they are measured in 8ths of an inch, so an 8 is 8/8 or one inch) on the clippers and cut my whole head with it. Well, I went into the bathroom one morning to take a shower and thought, I should cut my hair. It's been a while and it's starting to get kind of long. So I grabbed the clippers, leaned my head over the sink and started cutting.

I started in the back and brought the clippers up and around the side of my head by my right ear. I continued that motion working up towards the top of my head. As the hair was dropping into the sink I thought to myself, "Boy, my hair sure is long this time." After about three or four swipes, I looked up to see in the mirror above the sink how things were coming. Boy was I shocked! The hair on my right side was gone!!! I thought "Holy cow! What just happened!" I looked down at the attachment on the clippers and it was a 1!!!! Yeah, the hair on the right side of my head was 1/8 of an inch long. Now usually, the number 8 is just on the clippers already, but I had forgotten that I had put the number 1 on several weeks ago to trim my sideburns. Usually I do that with my electric razor, but for some reason I used the hair clippers that time. Since the number 8 is usually on the hair clippers I didn't even think to check it. Also in my defense I was functioning on very little sleep, and was also very distracted thinking about my cute little guy. Boy did I look silly! But what else could I do but finish the job.

I cut the rest of my hair off and hopped in the shower. When I finished, I came out and walked sheepishly into the living room. Liesl was pretty shocked to say the least. It is finally growing on her though (faster than my hair is growing on me) and has even told me that she kinda likes it. If anything it does make a funny story! When my mom saw me she said that we needed to find matching shirts for me and Calin so we could be twins. We both do have pretty bald heads now!

Happy Birthday Robby!

Sunday we celebrated Robby's birthday. Unfortunately for Robby it was not a huge grand day, but we did manage to make some cake and homemade ice cream so he at least had some sort of celebration! Thanks to my mom for making the ice cream! I would not have gotten it made without her!

Robby was so excited for Calin to wear this cute outfit for his birthday celebration!

It is pretty dang cute!

Our little family!

Yeah, we love him!

So glad my parents were here to help and celebrate with us!

Grandma Lundberg came to celebrate too!

Robby's family was here too!

Here are some other pictures from the last two weeks that I wanted to share too!

This was our "one week old" party we had for Calin.

Calin's first walk!

After his first bath!

Snuggles and burps with Dad! We love how he curls up like a little frog!
