Clara has become quite the little personality and she sure does surprise us and keep us on our toes every day. Although sometimes it can be exhausting she is pretty darn cute most of the time so that makes up for it! We did take some pictures on her 18 month day, but they seem to have disappeared. These two pictures are from that day though and her 18 month doctors check-up.
I'm a little late in writing this post, but once again did make some notes back closer to her 18 month mark. So here are some things about Clara at 18 months:
-She can say pretty much any word that we ask her to. She repeats everything you say and also has a very big vocabulary of words she knows on her own. She talks a lot and uses many 2, 3, and 4 word phrases. She picks up on everything we say and goes on to repeat it and use the words/phrases often. Some of the ones we have heard often in the last month or so are things like "in a minute", "after dinner", and "how you doing? good.", "hold it, hand". She will use these mostly correctly, but at very funny and random times. "In a minute" she would say after almost everything. She will say "after dinner" when we would want her to do something or go somewhere and she would say "after dinner" no matter what time of day it was. And lately Robby will say "how are you doing? and then say good?" right after like he's asking a question. But Clara says it "how you doing? good. " Like she's answering for herself. It's pretty funny. And when she wants something she will point to one hand with the other and say "hold it. Hand." She always wants to see and hold everything we have particularly if it's the phone.
-Clara, just like Calin, does not like it when we have to go to the bathroom. We can not close the door or she will either cry and run in wanting to be held, or will cry and sit by the door or on the floor of the bathroom, or occasionally she doesn't cry and just comes in and sits down.
-Clara is starting to learn her colors. She can say the colors, but I don't think she's too sure of what color is what. The other day she did seem pretty sure of yellow, blue, green, orange and red, (colors on her ring stacker) but I don't know if that transfers to other things.
-Clara can count! About a month or two ago she was consistently counting to 3 during play and games with Robby and I. Then one day shortly after she randomly counted to 10. Then a week or two later Robby heard her counting to 12. She listens to everything we do and what Calin does and picks up on it very quickly.
-Clara has recently started actively using crayons and markers and actually coloring with them and enjoying it. Today when we were coloring I was helping Calin draw some heads and she would do her marker and point and say she had drawn a head.
-Clara knows the names of lots of animals and knows a few sounds too. She can recognize and name animals seeing them in real life and in pictures. The sounds she knows best are dog-"woof", cat "meow", cow-"moo" (most of the time sometimes she says baaa for cow), Sheep-"baaaa", elephant-raises her arms and does a "uuueeoo".
-She knows the names of her family, aunts and uncles, grandmas and grandpas, and cousins. She occasionally mixes names up. She also knows some of the neighborhood friends and kids we see at playgroup like Dylan, and Josie (our neighbors).
-Clara loves to do whatever Calin is doing. She is usually found playing with or by him trying to do whatever he is doing. Occasionally she will do her own thing, but most of the time tries to join in with Calin. So she is often found driving cars, playing with dinosaurs, and fighting bad guys. However, she does have a soft girly play side that comes out when we are playing with her or the few times she does her own thing. She likes her baby dolls although she doesn't get them out often. She will carry them around and give them hugs and kisses. Whatever she is doing though she doesn't like to do it alone and often says "c'mon" to have us join her in whatever she or she and Calin are doing.
-She is really loving to read lately and will often bring books to us and say "read it me". And will climb up on our laps ready for a story. She also will hold to book and say "I read it". She will turn the pages and jabber or sing like she is reading the book or singing her own song about the book. It is very cute and I could watch her read books like that all day. She has a few favorite books but it does change every day and week. When she reads these books herself she does know some of the word/phrases and will use them while she is "reading" the books. Some of her favorite books are "How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight", "Goodnight Moon", "Bedtime at the Swamp", "We're off to find the Witches House", "Who Will Haunt My House on Halloween", "Pout Pout Fish", and a few others that pop up in there. Lately it has been changing every few days what book she wants to read a lot.
-She likes to say "diaper change". But it is only occasionally when she actually needs a diaper change. She says it all the time right when we put her in her high chair.
-She does not like to sit in her high chair and will point to the big chairs requesting to sit there.
-She started nursery and was a champ! Most of that I think is thanks to having Calin in there with her. They are great little buddies and hopefully Calin can help watch out for her for the next few months before he goes to sunbeams. She would get slightly sad occasionally when we'd leave her for the first few weeks, but then was fine and played in there good with Calin.
-She has no interest in prayers or helping say them. When we say prayers at night she just runs around or will come sit by us with a book or toy. She has helped once or twice, but it was a rare moment of willingness to participate. She will fold her arms for meal prayers about half the time when we or Calin are praying. Otherwise she just wants to start eating. And she does occasionally pipe in with "amen". Sometimes in the middle of the prayer. Guess she's ready to be done.
-She is having a hard time giving up the morning nap. She wakes up around 6 or 7 and then is tired and ready for a nap around 10. Some mornings she will lay in her crib and go to sleep but other times we have to go for a drive to get her to have a little snooze. If she gets that morning nap it helps her sleep better in the afternoon so I'm not super worried about getting her to give it up yet.
-She likes to have a napkin when she is eating and is always wiping off her hands or face or anything she spills on the table while she is eating.
-She loves to help us with jobs and cleaning up. I will often find her picking or cleaning things up without being asked. I have to watch her though because sometimes she will "clean-up" and take something stop the garbage that isn't supposed to be thrown away.
-She says "cheese" whenever she sees the camera come out. However that doesn't always mean that she actaully holds still or looks at the camera.
We love Clara and are so glad that she is a part of our family. She is our sweet little Clara Bara and we love watching her learn and grow as she discovers so many new things!
